About Department
District Water and Sanitation Mission is one of the important departments in Zilla Parishad. Project Director Jal Jivan Mission alias Dy. Chief Executive Officer (Watsan) (District Water and Sanitation Mission) is the head of this department. Individual toilet construction, community Sanitary Complex (CSC), Solid and Liquid waste management, Gobardhan, Faecal Sludge management, plastic waste management and training and public awareness activities on various topics related to sanitation are implemented through this department.
Vision & Objectives
* IHHL
The Central Government has launched Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Yojana on 15th August 2014. The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) scheme provides the benefit of personal toilet incentive subsidy to eligible households as per the baseline survey The Family who not having Individual toilet at Gram Panchayat level. Nandurbar district has been declared Open defection free district March on 2018. Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Community Sanitary Complex (CSC), solid waste and sewage management as well as sanitation awareness programs are implemented at Gram Panchayat level.
* Sant gadgebaba Gram Swachhhata Abhiyan
The main objective of the Gram Swachhata Program is to improve the health status of the rural people. Sant Gadgebaba Gram Swachhta Abhiyan, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Swachh Gram Contest is being implemented from Year 2000-2001 with the view that the rural people should feel this program as their own and get them to participate spontaneously by convincing them of its importance. Also, from the year 2002-03, an initiative was started to give special prizes to Gram Panchayams at Taluka, District, Division and State level, who have done substantial work in a specific field related to cleanliness and village development. From the year 2018-19, new guidelines are issued every year from the government level. Accordingly, from the year 2018-19, in the Sant Gadge Maharaj Gram Swachhta Abhiyan Competition, prizes are being awarded to the best ward at the Gram Panchayat level and the best Gram Panchayats who have done substantial work in the field of sanitation in the Zilla Parishad.
* ODF (Plus) – (Open Defication Free) The objective of Swachh Bharat Mission Rural is to make villages open defecation free i.e. ODF Plus and today, finally 601 villages in the district have been declared ODF Plus.The remaining villages will also be declared ODF Plus in phases. In the financial year 202425, sewage and solid waste management works have been completed in a total of 601 villages, including 57 out of 879 villages in the action plan and 544 in the previous one.
* Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance Programme-
Under the Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance Programme, two times a year during pre-monsoon (April to September) and post-monsoon (October to march), samples of public drinking water under Gram Panchayat are collected and sent to District & sub-divisional laboratories for Chemical & Bacteriological testing.
Samples of schools, Anganwadis, FHTCs and public drinking water are collected For Bacteriological and Chemical analysis by FTK Kit. If Requires Samples of schools, Anganwadis, FHTCs and public drinking water are collected The water samples are collected by the JalSurakshak with help of MPW & Health supervisor through the application WQMIS app and sent to the District & Sub-divisional laboratory for testing. Also, Drinking Water Source Sanitation Survey campaign is conducted twice a year before monsoon (1st April to 30th April) and after monsoon from 2nd October to 31st October. After the said survey green, yellow or red cards are distributed to Gram Panchayats.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), a centrally sponsored scheme, Rs.12, 000/- per person toilet incentive subsidy is given to the eligible beneficiaries through this department. Also, public toilet construction and solid waste and liquid waste management projects are implemented at the village level.III. Trainings on various topics related to sanitation and public awareness activities are implemented through the department of District Water and Sanitation Mission.

Gobardhan project in Bamkheda Ta. Ta.
Under Swachh Bharat Mission Rural Phase 2, the Gobardhan project has been implemented in the year January 2024 in Gram Panchayat Bamkheda T. T. Taluka Shahada. The cost of this project is Rs. 50 lakhs.Dung, wet waste from kitchens, food stores, vegetable markets, used for the Gobardhan project. Around 30 to 36 kg of gas is generated daily from the Gobardhan project. Through it, 49 families have been given gas connections. This project is maintained by the Gram Panchayat.
