    District Water Conservation Department

    Introduction :-
As per the prevailing government policy, small irrigation dam projects with irrigation capacity of 0 to 100 hectares are implemented by the Water Conservation Department under the jurisdiction of the Zilla Parishad. After the beneficiary farmers, water use cooperative societies, concerned Gram Panchayat or people’s representatives request for the scheme, a detailed budget of the work is prepared after inspecting the site. Administrative and technical approval is given to the Small Irrigation Dam Department of the Zilla Parishad as per the available funds. Tendering can be done as per the guidelines of the Rural Development and Water Conservation Department. It is necessary to establish a beneficiary farmer-i.e. cooperative water use organization in the actual irrigation area. After the scheme is completed, it is handed over to the Gram Panchayat and informed about its further maintenance and repair.

The types of small irrigation dam schemes are as follows.
    1) Village Tank
    2) Percolation Tank
    3) Storage Bandhara
    4) K.T.Weir
    5) lift irrigation scheme
    6) Constructing recharge dams

    Objectives of the department:-
Construction of small irrigation schemes up to 100 hectares irrigation capacity. (e.g. village Tanks, percolation Tanks, K T Weirs, storage dams, gated storage Bandhara, constitutional recharge dams. To increase the irrigation area in the area by building dams on rivers/nalls as per the demand of local farmers, gram panchayats or people’s representatives.
By blocking the rainwater falling during the monsoon, the groundwater level will increase, which will increase the water level of the wells in the area and increase the irrigation area. To create a suitable water reservoir for farmers for agriculture, orchards, and vegetable cultivation. To create sufficient water reservoir for fish production To create employment and help increase per capita income. The small irrigation schemes completed under the department provide indirect irrigation which is beneficial for agriculture.

    Objectives and Functions:-
All the schemes implemented through the Water Conservation Department are of collective benefit. Funds are received from the District Planning Committee for the implementation of these schemes through the Zilla Parishad and from the Tribal Scheme for schemes in the tribal areas. Priority is given to undertaking small irrigation schemes in areas where small irrigation schemes are not operational. While doing so, priority is given to drought-prone areas, water scarcity-affected areas, tribal and hilly areas. In this, a detailed budget is prepared after examining the soil level, water catchment area, rainfall value in the area, structure of possible canals, land acquisition and if the project fits the prevailing economic parameters. After verifying all the technical aspects required for the project and obtaining the administrative approval of the competent authority of the District Council as per the availability of funds, after obtaining technical approval as per the competence, after inviting tenders for the work as per the guidelines of the Rural Development Department, the work is started by appointing a contractor/agency to construct the project.
Management only after the completion of the plan:-
After the completion of the project, it is handed over to the concerned Gram Panchayat for water management and maintenance.
